PIA Crashing – PIA MD Aijaz Haroon in the Cockpit
One of the first acts of Asif Ali Zardari was to appoint his old drinking buddy Aijaz Haroon as Managing Director of Pakistan International Airlines. Aijaz has virtually no management experience, his sole experience is as a pilot for Boeing airplanes. But the goal for Asif Zardari is not necessarily the success of PIA but to get “his” people in position of financial power. Capt.

Aijaz Haroon has promised to turnaround the national carrier in six months, since he was appointed May 7, 2008, that would mean by Nov. 7, 2008 the national carrier, PIA, will move to profitability.
Our inside sources tell us that Aijaz Haroon’s charter is something quite different. He will either drive PIA towards complete bankruptcy for a privatization windfall, and/or further leverage the Company and try to buy additional planes and gain manufacturer kick back (most likely from Boeing).
We forecast that Aijaz Haroon will keep touting to the press increase in PIA revenues as a showcase of his performance, whereas in reality PIA profitability will continue to decline. The last management acknowledged a record breaking Rs. 13 billion loss. We predict that under the management Aijaz Haroon will have over Rs. 60 billion loss.
The other excuses Aijaz Haroon, MD PIA, will use is to blame increasing oil prices as a cause to loss of profitability, or he will use devaluation of the Rs. as an excuse to cover PIA losses. But neither of these reasons are valid. PIA needs a marketing plan overcoming ‘Open Skies’ approach and leadership to improve morale of the PIA staff. So far, he does not exhibit the ability to provide either.
Running an airline requires management skills, understanding marketing, global brand management, international finance, open skies policies, and confidence of the staff, Mr. Aijaz Haroon has none of these skills. What he does have, is similar taste in beverage as Asif Ali Zardari.
In developed nations you never hear about the bus driver becoming the head of Greyhound, but in Pakistan I guess the bus driver can become the MD of PIA in Pakistan.

No, we were not drunk while writing this blog. Unlike most pilots, we are not drinkers, and especially not drinking buddies with PIA MD Capt. Aijaz Haroon and his buddy Asif Ali Zardari. Our point here is that this individual, Capt. Aijaz got his job not because he is competent but because he gets drunk with Asif Zardari. Your comment QED makes our point.

Absolutely unqualified person for the job.He lack not only required experience but manners and sophistication technically indispensable for the place.But he carries whole lot of heavy load of all prerequisites to the Post.Like he is closest buddy of Todays President of this unfortunate country.Drinking with President or being closest to him is compeletely private affair dat one fully respects.But being close to President or any high Public figure does not mean license to everything.
Aijaz Haroon is a very Handsome Man.He appears to be very dignified individual.But his qualifications fall too short to meet the job requirement.Besides sombre picture further gets intensified when he so openly lacks the sophistication and Manners required for a M.D in Corporation like PIA.
Being a Friend to President does not mean an open disregard for Elected body like CBA.It is indeed regrettable to find MD bizy victimising CBA and PALPA.He crushed CBA so shamfully,and raised a stooge Named MRZ: Shehzadi as Manager Briefing Controle .She was promoted from Air hostess to a Managerial level without experience in the field.It was made so at the cost of injustice to many in the deptt: who were qualified in both experience and seniorty.She has played a vital role in emasculating CBA Powers including lodging many FIRs against CBA activists.
Mr: Aijaz Haroon is a good poilt.A nice looking man.But his performance so far flages red and sombre.MR: Kashif Raza is an other sad episode of the same AIjaz Story.Kashif was appointed as flight steward in 2004,and was terminated after exact two yrz from PIA on alegded theft from DXB duty free shop.He was alledgedly cought red handed in dxb duty free while stealing “Tang”.This guy who is Brother in law to Aijaz Haroon is back now.MR: Kashif was reappointed as Flight Steward,and after exact one month posted into Ctering Deptt; in Manchester in group six.
Aijaz Harron has a tough battle field on image front.He has to fight,otherwise image crises sometimes lead Big Monarchs of time to a big devastation.Wish a safe passage Aijaz!

Seriously…this article is very biased. I do not personally know him, but I can say that as a frequent traveler on PIA on international routes PIA has improved a lot. We should be lucky to even have an airline unlike some culture states that dont! Your just another pathetic example of a Pakistani thats all. What someone does in their personal life cant be looked at as a reason to judge them, didnt your mother tell you that? If not, now you know:-) I dont like Zardari, but looking at the product PIA NOW offers, it is going in the right direction. You made quite a big statement there about pilots drinking….well you may not drink, but I am quite sure you do other things not permitted by your conscious…seriously though get a life, your probably some ex-employees relative if not the ex employee of PIA, or soemone who has something against the man just because something didnt go your way. One word of advice….when you point fingers at someone, 3 fingers always point back….:-) Next time please use that organ above your eyes you probably didnt even know you had, called the brain in sync with your mouth….other than that…no hard feelings…take care.

PIA has taken off to great heights thanks to Mr Aijaz Haroon. i think your problem is that you guys just need a topic to talk about instead of supporting!! this is our Pakistani mentality which has to change!! is true – I ask people myself whether they make a taxi driver the MD of the cab firm – they dont because they ar enot qualified – thier job is driving and they should stick to it. PIA has not improved. It has made more loss than ever before but is hidden by the management. They sell assets to offset the balance sheet. They are also planning to sell shares in PIA hotels and ‘EAT’ the money. I think they have already done a deal on the hotel in new york. Ask the MD, he will know!
And the comment above that none of the PIA pilots drink – I have seen them myself. Us Pakistanis and muslims are SOOO proud to call our self true Pakistanis and true believer, but in reality we are hypocrites, liars, cheats, corrupt, theives, and so Allah has not blessed us at all. We are going through such a hard time. May be people need to vote/force corrupt people out of our organisations and let those who are
